Reading Response
(Art and Fear) 1. What work have you made that seems most yours? Why? Throughout this semester I have made quite a lot of different work; All are paintings but of different subject matter. I feel as though the trials in the beginning lead me to where I am now. I would definitely say the content of my fluid paintings now are ‘more myself.’ I feel as though the galaxy paintings and landscapes from before were trying too hard so I felt as if I were limiting myself. With the abstract fluid paintings I’m working on now, I have more creative freedom to allow the paintings to become what they are meant to be! Which I am throughly enjoying as well!
2. Who are artists that are making work that relates to you? Are there other influences? How are these other influences connected to your work? I have seen the fluid technique done before, but there isn’t a certain artist I’m inspired by. I was more so inspired by the technique itself. Mother Nature is my biggest influence when it comes to my work, no matter if I’m painting, drawing, or sculpting. Nature is directly connected to my work, it really is my immediate inspiration. Usually my work is of landscapes, but with my current paintings that are abstract I am still using the natural colors.
3. Discuss in your own words, why you think this is so? I think there is a lot of truth behind this statement. As you look back in history, no matter what century, you will always find art. Even coming from cultures we might not have a lot of background information on (indigenous people, etc) we still saw drawings from those times. Drawing and art itself, was around before language was really discovered and taught. Art was used as an outlet in place of. Drawing was used to tell stories, and now we still see those stories drawn on caves and tablets. I think art will continue to be used as a way of language and expression. Hopefully art will still play a major part in the generations to come.
4.  Which of these ideas resonates most with you? Why? If they all resonate, how do they differ? I think each statement resonates with me for different reasons. I think everyone is entitled to why they make art. Whether it is to make art that is of nature or what is going on in the world, or protest/inspirational art that the world could benefit from, or to just make art in the world that you’re proud of and you like. There is no negative connotation for what your reasoning is behind making art. You make art because you’re inspired to do so..  I matter where that inspiration comes from!
5. What do you notice about yourself? What are your methods? Subject matter? The answers do not have to be limited to art related topics. I know that my main source of inspiration comes directly from nature. I have a strong connection with nature and the longing to be outside, for as long as I can remember. I can be somewhat of a mess, which isn’t always a bad thing and I usually have a thousand ideas running all at once. I usually try to sort out those ideas and go with the best one first, or which project is due first. Staying on track is always something I have struggled with. Nature again is my biggest subject matter, I would say. If I ever feel really stuck in a place, or not sure what direction to go.. I usually go outside; walking on the beach is where I go to clear my mind. My subject matter can vary, but almost always directly relates to Mother Nature.
6. What do you care about? The answers do not have to be limited to art related topics.
As I have also previously stated above, I care a lot about nature and the environment. Ever since I was alittle girl, I was always animal obsessed and wanting to spend all daylight hours outside. I was lucky enough to have a childhood before technology really came into play. Animal and environmental activism are a big deal to me. I’ve always said I wanted to change the world, and make it a better place. For as long as I’m on this planet earth, I am going to do my part to be ‘green’ and make better decisions. This year I stopped eating meat as well (just a personal choice) but I feel better about my decision, because I am so fond of all animals. I also have two cats that I love dearly. They are my children, and yes you can call me a crazy cat lady. All of these reasons are why I focus my attention on nature, especially with my art. These are my passions, and what matters the most to me.

Reading Response
(Christians Reading) When it comes to groups of people, no matter if it’s five or five hundred people, why do we feel the need to put a label? Why do all of these people have to be related to one another somehow? Maybe we group or label people without even realizing. I know that I try to be a pretty organized person. Every material thing in my life has a place, and I like to keep things that way. Maybe we unintentionally organize and group human beings together as well. Not always with a negative connotation, but maybe because we feel like we need some kind of order. Especially with numbers of people, it can be overwhelming so by grouping individuals together we mentally put order to things. Now that’s not to say that some people aren’t hateful or labeling individuals out of spite.. but maybe we can look at grouping people together in a positive way as well. When I say this though, I am not inferring that we should change people to society’s ridiculous standards or make everyone similar. I just think that when we label a group, maybe we are just comparing similar traits these individuals already have. The best part of groups of people, is the fact that everyone is an individual. We all have our own characteristics, and quirks about ourselves. As an individual, you are the only one with your exact unique chromosomes. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes about themselves, but we should be proud of our individuality. Different is a good thing! Being different makes you stand out in a crowd. We need to learn to praise ‘different’ rather than to look at it as a hinderance.

Reading Response
(My Reading) To believe, or not to believe.. Are aliens real? Is the scientific question of the day. This has been, for as long as I can remember one of my favorite topics. I have believed in aliens since I was a young girl.. from ScoobyDoo movies to my alien-themed 8th birthday party. No joke! I think the idea of believing really brings back those childlike memories.. like believing in Santa. I’m definitely a self proclaimed dreamer, so thinking of these other beings is definitely other worldly. The idea of something else thriving out there on another planet in space, or in another galaxy is pretty magical. There are so many galaxies out there, and so much space that is still unknown.. it’s kind of hard not to believe in something.
One of my favorite shows is Ancient Aliens on the History Channel. I’m really into history, so mixing that with extraterrestrial existence is transcending. There are so many potential theories as to why aliens could exist. Even looking back at art in the past. There are signs of ‘unknown’ in art all throughout history. There is also the potential that some crazy person, or maybe just a dreamer came up with these ideas in history’s past.. but I as a dreamer, would like to believe that their existence is real.

Reading Response
(Annie’s) Why do we as a society have such a lack of respect for our lands and the environment around us? Not as an entire whole, but as a majority. Why do we feel the need to continue on such a path. We continue to use ridiculous amounts of natural resources while doing close to nothing to give back to our environment. We continue to produce vast amounts of waste, throwing away tons of trash, and continuing to use single use plastic (in my opinion, one of the worst things of all.) We should be protecting our lands, not destroying them. We should be standing up to this giant companies, and boycotting their products especially since they care less about the lands and more about producing and consuming. That's a huge factor with this whole problem all together, producing and consuming way too much. We feel the need to have too much of everything, rather than just using what we need.. and the left overs of what we don't use, and literally thrown away. We waste so much product as a whole. We are so brainwashed as a society. We need to stop listening to these major cooperations, and stop consuming the products they produce. We should buy local instead. Help out the friends and families in our communities. We need to learn to give back and help those in need. We can help by donating items and our time. We need to look towards the future during these times, and we can start by building a better now.

Reading Response
(Jessie’s) Would I live forever? There’s a lot of indecisiveness, and pros and cons that go along with that statement. Of course who wouldn’t like to say they would live forever.. to be able to go through the decades to come. See the technology improve, music change(and hopefully improve), and to just see the overall differences for the years to come. But with that sort of change, comes good and bad.. with the way that the world is currently, I’m not quite sure I want to see the future if we continue on the path that we are on.. mostly dealing with the environment. From deforestation, to pollution, the evolving world’s plastic and trash fiasco, and the way animals and us as people are being affected by this. If we did not change, I would have to say I would not want to live forever.. I would not want to see the world continue on this horribly unfortunate and destructive path we are currently on. I feel sorry for the next generations to come; for my children, and grandchildren.. to see the obstacles they will have to overcome because of the selfishness of our current generation and the few before us. The decisions we make everyday, affect our daily lives, and like a ripple effect.. the decisions we make now, affect our future. We need to change, and we can be that change. We need to start thinking of a more green, earth-friendly, and even vegan approach to the way we are living on Mother Earth.
